ZAtop Gearless elevator motor

ZIEHL-ABEGG’s ZAtop gearless elevator motors come equipped with dual brakes which are certified as a safety device according to Lift Directive 20214/33/EU and work on separately activated brake circuits.

They are deployable as an element of the ascending car overspeed protection means and as part of the protection against unintended lift car movement. The brakes operate almost wear free throughout the controlled operation from speed 0 (start) to speed 0 (stop). Brake manufacturers are continually making improvements in quality to achieve a longer service life and maintenance free operation.

For older machines in busy elevators the brakes can become noisier over time, when opening and closing. When the brake noise is no longer acceptable, they need to be replaced. As a certified safety device replacing components and disassembling the brake is not recommended as the safety certification is lost. The brakes have been selected for each motor, so we need to check the motor name plate when selecting the correct replacement brakes.
